Panellist Alistair O’Neill said: “Knockando Woolmill’s New Woven Textile Designer award is an exciting initiative uniting Scotland’s oldest continually working weaving mill with the creativity and innova- tion of the UK’s next generation of textile designers. Central Saint Martins is proud to be a part of the judging panel and sees the initiative as a good indication of how Scottish textiles can succeed in the 21st century.”

After the event, panellist Fleet Bigwood stated: "It was a great honour to be given the opportunity to judge the Knockando new woven textile design award 2017.

Working with a mill with such a heritage and opening this competition to young creatives, is a fantastic opportunity to see a product that harnesses both classical working methods and new design ideas.

The judging was rigorous and all concerned agreed on the winning design. Jessica Cutler showed a real flair for colour and proportion. The winning design could be applied to both home interiors or a fashion application - dependent on selection of yarns, scale and finishing.

The presentation was of a high quality with concise technical information provided and the interpretations of her design were well considered and professional. A really great opportunity to see her design produced, sold and marketed by one of Scotlands oldest weaving mills.

A great way to launch a career in design and a fantastic opportunity for any textile design student to have work produced, win a prize and attend a fantastic fashion event. Well done for arranging a successful day."

As well as receiving £500, the winning design will be produced commercially by Knockando Woolmill and sold with custom labelling featuring the designer’s name.
