Commemorative War Blankets
80 YEARS, 80 THREADS – BLANKETS WOVEN WITH HISTORY
Knockando Woolmill marks VE Day anniversary with limited-edition commemorative war blankets – a fitting tribute to the past, woven for the present
To mark 80 years since VE Day, Scotland’s most historic working woolmill, Knockando Woolmill in Speyside, has gone back to its roots – and its looms – to weave a tribute to the past that’s as practical as it is poignant.
Inspired by the original war blankets produced at the Mill during the First and Second World Wars, the new collection of limited-edition commemorative blankets is made from 100% British wool and features a bold woven stripe made up of exactly 80 threads – symbolising 80 years since the end of the war.
Back then, Knockando’s war blankets were simple ecru wool, finished with a traditional whipped edge. Today, that same sense of understated durability is echoed in a new design – a classic twill weave, made to last, and crafted with care at one of Scotland’s oldest working textile mills.
Available in three exclusive colourways, only 20 blankets of each design have been crafted – making these rare and meaningful pieces of living history. Each woven blanket measures approximately 180 x 152 cm and honours not just the weavers and soldiers of the past, but the timeless skills that keep Knockando Woolmill at the heart of Scottish craft today.
These are limited edition blankets so don’t miss out!
