Powered by History: Our Waterwheel Restoration project

HELP US POWER THE MILL FOR THE FUTURE
Once the beating heart of our historic production, Knockando Woolmill’s 19th-century waterwheel is ready for a remarkable comeback — and we need your vote to make it happen.
We’re in the running to receive a share of £333,333 from the Just Transition Participatory Budgeting Fund to help repurpose the waterwheel as a renewable energy source. By restoring this heritage mechanism to generate green electricity, we’ll reduce our energy costs and bring traditional innovation into a modern, sustainable future.
This isn’t just about powering the Mill — it’s about preserving a national treasure. With your support, we can generate up to 67 kWh of clean energy every day, saving around £7,000 annually and reducing our reliance on the national grid to almost zero.
Every vote helps us continue our work: safeguarding Scotland’s textile heritage, welcoming visitors from around the world, and inspiring future generations through a living example of sustainability in action.
Please help us keep the wheel turning!
