CAREERS

Nestled in the Highlands of Scotland, Knockando Woolmill has ensured the craft of carding, spinning and weaving with local wool has been passed down through generations since 1784.

Skilled craftsmen work with both modern looms and rare antique equipment, dating from as far back as 1870, to create luxury textiles for designers, estates and individuals who seek the unique qualities and exclusivity that only authentic traditional techniques can produce.

Fair Work First is the Scottish Government’s flagship policy for driving fair work and workforce diversity in Scotland.

As a public funded organisation, Knockando Woolmill Trust is expected to adopt fair working employment practices, specifically:

   • payment of at least the real living wage
   • provide appropriate channels for effective workers’ voice, such as trade union recognition
   • investment in workforce development
   • no inappropriate use of zero hours contracts
   • action to tackle the gender pay gap and create a more diverse and inclusive workplace
   • offer flexible and family friendly working practices for all workers from day one of employment
   • oppose the use of fire and rehire practice

Additionally, the Scottish Government’s Fair Work First policy seeks to address challenges in the wider labour market by promoting and applying fair work criteria to use of public monies through grant awards, other funding and public contracts.

This will support communities, businesses, other organisations, and the economy.

The Trust already fulfil all the Fair Work First criteria with our own employees.
