NATURAL PLANT DYEING WITH NETTLES

Discover the natural dyeing process with one of our live demonstrations! 

Over the course of the day, we will be preparing skeins of our North Country Cheviot yarn, making dye baths with nettles from the mill gardens, and experimenting with colour modifiers. 

The day will include:

• Preparing wool for dyeing + measuring dye substances
• Scouring the wool with detergent
• Making a dye bath with dried nettles from the site + dyeing the wool 
• Mordanting the wool for colour fastness
• Making an iron bath to experiment with colour modifiers
